Funds in Disaster Relief

In early January, multiple major wildfires have swept through Los Angeles County, causing unimaginable loss and destruction. Our hearts and thoughts are with those affected by this disaster, including our associates, their families and friends, and our customers and communities. We will support our associates and LA communities in various ways, from short-term urgent needs in the next few weeks to long-term recovery and rebuilding over the coming months. We have several associates who were directly impacted, evacuated from their homes, and a few who have lost their homes. We have activated the Williams-Sonoma, Inc. Foundation to provide financial assistance to associates impacted by the wildfires. The most immediate and helpful way we can help support our people and communities is to donate to the established non-profits that are on the ground supporting relief efforts. Monetary donations are preferred over product donations, given the infrastructure and logistics required to store and distribute the necessary items. If you are in a position to help, WSI has created a dedicated Associate Donation page in our online platform, BrightFunds called Los Angeles Wildfire Relief Fund 2025. Williams-Sonoma, Inc. will match associate donations to this fund, so for every dollar you donate, the WSI Foundation will match that dollar donation. The catastrophic destruction and devastation caused by the LA Wildfires is incomprehensible. From Time Magazine: At least five people have died and thousands of residents have been forced to flee in the wake of raging wildfires in the Los Angeles region, as firefighters have struggled to contain several blazes that were fanned by strong winds and are expected to worsen. Fueled by low humidity and raging Santa Ana winds of up to 60 mph, the Palisades Fire burned through 17,234 acres by Thursday morning, while the Eaton Fire had spread across 10,600 acres. Both were 0% contained. Firefighters are battling five fires across the Los Angeles area at once. Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell crews are facing "unprecedented conditions,” and asked people to heed evacuation orders at a press conference on Wednesday morning. “This is a tragic time in our history here in Los Angeles, but a time when we’re really tested and see who we really are,” McDonnell said. This fund is to donate to organizations that are providing relief during this time.

Damage to and loss of homes, businesses and infrastructure is significant, with thousands of acres burned. On the 2nd of January 2025, the world's largest textile resale market that is home to 30,000 people that deal with more than 15 million secondhand clothes that come in from around the world each week, burned down. Overnight, thousands lost their livelihoods and their opportunity to engage in a just transition in fashion as over two thirds of Kantamanto Market in Accra, Ghana was razed to the ground due to improper, unsafe, and unstable construction. The fire was devastating, affecting and displacing nearly 8000 of the 30,000 retailers in the market. What this means for Kantamanto and Accra is clear as 10 of its 13 sections are now decimated; what this means for the global fashion industry that relies on Kantamanto to deal with its waste still remains to be seen. Help is needed now, support with as much or as little as you can - it will go a long way as it won't just help them today, but support with building a better, safer tomorrow.

Spain has been devastated by the weather phenomenon known as DANA and the death toll continues to rise. Spain is in need of immediate support and long term support to recover from these catastrophic flash floods that have inundated large parts of the country. This fund highlights a handful of charities that are providing immediate relief in affected regions and will offer longer term support as cities and people heal and rebuild.

At the end of October 2024, Spain's Valencia region was hit by severe flash floods, with relentless rains sweeping through cities, towns and rural areas alike. In some areas a year's worth of rain poured in a single day which led to terrible consequences for locals and infrastructures. These conditions have left several areas completely isolated, with no access to electricity, gas or clean water. Torrential rains have cut off entire communities making it difficult for families to receive essential supplies and emergency care. Roads are blocked, power lines are down, and emergency response services are overwhelmed by the attention needed. The lack of access to basic utilities is putting vulnerable populations at high risk, especially the elderly and children.

This flood caused by the storm La DANA is one of the deadliest weather events in modern Spanish history. Valencia is still recovering from the catastrophic floods that have killed more than 200 people and devastating entire communities. While Valencia works to recover from this immense tragedy, many areas remain in critical need of support, particularly food and basic necessities for those affected. With the storm ongoing and other regions still at risk of flooding, the immediate focus must be on locating those still missing and providing essential assistance to those displaced. The coming days will be crucial in coordinating relief efforts for those whose lives have been upended.

In the aftermath of devastating Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the Red Cross and US Humane Society are continuing to assist local organizations to provide disaster relief, emergency care, animal rescue, and rebuilding assistance for those affected and displaced by these disasters.

Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida on October 9th, 2024 as a powerful Category 3 hurricane. More than 3 million households were left without power as the storm traveled from Florida's western coast through central Florida and into the Atlantic. Severe flooding and damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure were left in the storm's wake, and multiple fatalities were reported as tornadoes connected to the storm's weather patterns touched down in St. Lucie County. An estimated 11 million people are at risk of flash flooding and there are reports of downed power lines, trees, and other forms of potentially dangerous debris left behind due to the storm's powerful winds. Relief efforts are underway, and the following nonprofits are providing critical resources in the form of emergency shelter, food, water, medical treatment, and supplies to those impacted. Your donation to this Fund will help support both immediate and long-term recovery efforts. Red Cross Responders are working around the clock with FEMA and other First Responders, in North Carolina to get help to those in need. They are setting up Shelters which will provide meals, emotional support and relief supplies.
