The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Northern California (ACLU NorCal) conducts litigation, policy research, and education efforts in support of civil liberties. Founded in 1934, ACLU NorCal works to preserve and guarantee the protections of the Constitution’s Bill of Rights, with particular focus on ensuring the extension of these freedoms to segments of our population who have traditionally been denied their rights. In addition to the litigation for which ACLU NorCal has been known over the past eight decades, we also educate the public, inform the media, organize grassroots activists, and disseminate information about our constitutional freedoms through our membership and volunteer chapters.
