About
Torrential monsoon rains and floods have washed away villages and infrastructure across three of the four provinces of Pakistan (Sindh, Baluchistan, and Punjab). As a result, around 33 million people, including 16 million children, have been affected, with more than 1,100 people dead. Some 200,000 homes have been swept away and a further 450,000 damaged; nearly 18,000 schools have been damaged as well.
Government officials are calling it a “climate catastrophe” and say the country is “ground zero” for extreme weather events. In the past year, Pakistan's also experienced heat waves, forest fires, and glacial lake outbursts. Pakistan produces less than 1% of global GHG emissions, yet it is listed as one of the most climate vulnerable places in the world. We've created the fund to support organizations and their emergency response efforts delivering life saving supplies, such as food, water, medicines and shelter.
