Kerala Flood Disaster Response and Recovery Fund

About

Kerala, India has experienced one of the worst monsoon seasons in nearly a century. The torrential rains have killed hundreds of people and led to landslides that have displaced hundreds of thousands of people. To support recovery efforts in the region, Bright Funds has established the Kerala Flood Disaster Response and Recovery Fund. This Fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits partnering with organizations on the ground to provide disaster relief in the region. Through a single tax deductible donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts and medical assistance. The composition of nonprofits in this fund is subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.

Your Donation Supports

World Vision

World Vision is on the ground preparing immediate distribution of food, shelter materials, hygiene kits, and family kits – including blankets, towels, kitchen supplies, mats, flashlights, mosquito nets, and more. Your gift will help support our urgent relief efforts for so many who are suffering in India.

Give2 Asia

Give2Asia is working with its local partner network in India to assess needs. Give2Asia is now mobilizing direct support to local organizations in our trusted partner network that are engaged in recovery efforts helping those on the ground. Local partner ActionAid is responding immediately, providing food, temporary shelter, reconstruction support, and health kits, for as many as 45,000 people. They are working in communities hit hardest by the floods - Pattanamthitta, Idukki, Wayanaad and Allapuzha. Another local partner, IGSSS is providing dry rations for households that are food insecure, helping replace education materials and uniforms for school-going children, distributing WASH/Hygiene Kits, and providing psychosocial support services. They are also working with GOONJ, who is on the ground conducting impact assessments and providing immediate relief to those in need.

Save the Children

Save the Children is set to open five child friendly spaces in the next 48-72 hours, providing a place for children to take part in therapeutic activities and games, regain a sense of normality and be with their friends. Save the Children will focus its response on the most affected and marginalized people, and has a team of staff on the ground conducting assessments to determine where the greatest needs are.
Save the Children has a long history responding to humanitarian crises in India, including the devastating floods in Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal last year.
