Oxfam has deployed humanitarian teams and aid to Ecuador following devastating earthquake. Safe drinking water is a top priority for survivors of Saturday’s major quake. Oxfam has mobilized two tons worth of aid including the tools necessary to secure basic hygiene and clean water in affected communities is currently on its way to the region. Oxfam has also deployed a 7-person team to the most affected areas to assess the damage and determine the most effective way to work with local partners to support the government’s response.

UNICEF teams are in Pedernales and Esmeraldas, two of the hardest hit areas, assessing children’s needs and coordinating the response. UNICEF is concerned about health, water and sanitation conditions in the coastal areas – which are already considered hotspots for Zika, Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya.
Care
CARE teams are already on the ground assessing the damage and working to address the urgent need for safe water, food and shelter. CARE’s humanitarian workers on the ground in Ecuador are on high alert and are working quickly to assess the situation. CARE has worked in Ecuador since 1962. CARE’s past work in Ecuador has included an emergency response to severe floods in 2008.
