Draper Hurricane Maria Disaster Response and Recovery Fund

About

Bright Funds has established the Hurricane Maria Disaster Response and Recovery Fund to support the Caribbean communities who are devastated by the catastrophic effects of this hurricane season. This Fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing disaster response in the region. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts and medical assistance. The composition of nonprofits in this Fund is subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground. Lionel Chamoiseau/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images

Your Donation Supports

International Medical Corps

The International Medical Corps provides lifesaving emergency care, medical supplies and long-term support to those in need. The International Medical Corps team is in Barbados and Antigua to support their Caribbean response efforts for those who have lost so much in the wake of Hurricane Irma. The team is also monitoring the situation with Hurricane Maria and stands ready to call forward additional staff and supplies should it be needed.

Americares

Americares is providing emergency medicine, supplies and medical outreach to the thousands of people in Hurricane Maria's destructive path. In the Caribbean, the Americares emergency response teams are coordinating shipments of critical medicine and supplies to local health organizations in islands that have been devastated by the storms. Americares emergency shipments have reached hospitals in St. Thomas and St. Martin, two hard-hit islands.

American National Red Cross

American Red Cross workers in both Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will take shelter and begin service delivery again as soon as it is safe. In Puerto Rico, local officials are opening evacuation shelters, and the Red Cross is mobilizing volunteers and supplies to be ready to help after Hurricane Maria passes over the island. In the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Red Cross is preparing for Hurricane Maria and expanding emergency sheltering efforts on St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix.

Samaritans Purse

Samaritan's Purse is taking critically need supplies to storm survivors. Since Samaritan's Purse is already at work in the region, they're in strategic position to help people prepare for Hurricane Maria. They are providing heavy-duty shelter plastic in advance of the storm on St. Martin and the Turks and Caicos Islands, where their DC-8 plane is headed carrying food, blankets, shelter plastic, hygiene kits, and water purification units.
